About Us

The Strategic Community Planning unit consists of 13 employees who work with long-term physical planning for a sustainable Upplands Väsby. We are responsible for comprehensive planning, traffic planning, environmental planning, cultural heritage issues, regional planning and development issues, as well as internal environmental strategic issues based on our environmental management system.

The unit belongs to the municipal executive office and the department for sustainable community development. The department also includes social sustainability and security, business, and communication.

About the Position

In the role of Environmental Strategist, you will have overall responsibility for the systematic environmental and climate work as well as the municipality's environmental management system to support the offices in their ongoing environmental efforts. Your tasks will include:

• Providing overall support in environmental strategic issues within the municipality
• Developing and managing the municipality's environmental certification (ISO 14001)
• Ensuring that municipality-wide environmental strategic documents are produced
• Driving the implementation of the municipality's strategies in the environmental and climate areas
• Being a presenter in matters related to environmental strategic issues both internally and externally
• Collaborating internally and externally with, for example, businesses
• Responding to motions, referrals, and interpellations related to environmental strategic work
• Promoting the municipality's work in external forums either independently or by identifying opportunities for the municipality to be visible
• In collaboration with environmental and climate coordinators, leading the internal and external environmental audit, the municipality's internal environmental network, updating environmental aspects, and managing legal registers

Are You the One We Are Looking For?

We are looking for someone who has:

• A university or college degree in environmental and natural sciences, environmental management systems, public administration, or equivalent
• Experience working as an environmental strategist
• Very good Swedish in speech and writing

It is meritorious if you have:

• Experience with environmental management systems according to ISO 14001
• Worked with audits in the environmental field
• Experience in municipal operations
• Familiarity with working in a politically governed organization
• Experience with strategic climate work, sustainability issues, and Agenda 2030
• Experience integrating environmental management systems with other operational management
• Experience in quality work

As a person, you are structured and results-oriented. You organize and plan your work well and work ambitiously to achieve both set goals and good results. Furthermore, you are relationship-building and collaborative, which for us means enjoying working with many different competencies, which we see as a prerequisite for succeeding in the role.
